let’s work together
Kilian O’Sullivan – Architectural, Interiors, Location & Portrait Photographer
I am a UK-based architectural, interiors, commercial and portrait photographer with over 23 years of professional experience, having established my practice in 2003. I work across the UK and internationally, specialising in heritage, residential, commercial, editorial and portrait commissions.
Before becoming a full-time photographer, I trained as an architect and spent six years working in practice with leading studios including AHMM, Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, Ahrends Burton and Koralek, BDP and Foster + Partners. That architectural foundation continues to shape the way I see and photograph buildings — with an understanding of spatial design, materiality, construction processes and the intent behind the work.
My Approach
I specialise in capturing both people and architectural environments. For me, architectural photography requires a degree of abstraction to elevate it into art — but it must also remain grounded in reality.
I developed an approach that focuses on buildings in use rather than buildings as objects. I seek out scenarios where architecture interacts with people and purpose, then use my experience and instincts to create images that feel both composed and authentic.
I don’t see buildings as shapes to look at — I see them as environments. They are social catalysts rather than sculptures. Sculpture is easy to photograph; society is hard.
My work aims to balance art with the commercial needs of my clients. I create photographs that communicate the vision of architects and designers while presenting architecture as something lived in, active and culturally relevant. At its core, my practice sits at the intersection of architecture and anthropology, guided by a simple principle:
It’s all about seeing.
